YMCA Victoria Unearth Program (Cambodia) Saturday January 6th - Wednesday January 10th, 2018. Travel Log #1
We currently have 2 Osaka YMCA staff participating in the Unearth Cambodia program, sponsored by Australia's Victoria YMCA.
This program combines volunteer activity along with sightseeing experiences in Cambodia, and allows for cultural, historical and social exchange, deepening the bonds between countries and raising awareness as a Global Citizen.
As part of the community development program, the Osaka YMCA staff helped to make lunch for the locals at the Church in the slum district and played soccer with the children in the afternoon.
Participants made toys for children at the Siem Reap YMCA Child Care Center. Since Yokohama YMCA and Kumamoto YMCA volunteered there before, the Siem Reap YMCA staff knows Japan well.
Participants were also able to learn about Cambodia's history and culture through the opportunity to observe an Apsara dance and visit Angkor Wat. They saw signs that indicated Japan's technological support in the making of the temple which was made with stones, surprising us about the relationship between Japan and Cambodia - something we weren't aware of before this trip.
オーストラリアのビクトリア YMCA主催のアンアースプログラムに、現在大阪 YMCAから2名のスタッフが参加しています。
このプログラムは、カンボジアでのボランティア活動や観光を通して、参加者相互が交流を深め、互いの文化や歴史を学ぶことにより、YMCAスタッフが地球市民としての意識と絆を深めるためのプログラムです。 その活動の一部をご紹介します。
コミュニティ開発プログラムでは、スラム地区の教会で地域の方々への昼食作りを行いました。その後、子どもたちとスタッフ持参のサッカーボールで遊びました。
シェムリアップ YMCAチャイルドケアセンターでは、子どもたちの遊具を作りました。以前横浜 YMCAや熊本 YMCAが支援に来たこともあり、シェムリアップ YMCAのスタッフは、日本のことをとてもよく知っていました。
また、カンボジア伝統のアプサラダンスや世界遺産のアンコールワットなどの寺院を見学し、カンボジアの歴史と文化を学びました。石造りの寺院ということで、日本の技術協力に関する看板もあり、これまで知らなかった日本とカンボジアのつながりを感じることができました。
