Osaka YMCA Business College has a program called Youth for Causes that challenges students to apply their business skills by working in teams to start their own social enterprise in support of a social cause they believe in.
This semester, "That's Why", a team of 5 business college students started their own business focused on making and selling tasty "soda float" beverages with all proceeds going to support a local orphanage, the Shin Ai Children's Home in Kobe, Japan. Although they faced a number of challenges marketing and developing their product, "That's Why" drinks proved to be a hit, selling out at the college's annual end-of-the-year party.
After consulting with the head of the orphanage, and with winter approaching they decided to use the profits to purchase much needed socks for the children. "That's Why" then visited an orphanage and hand-delivered their donations to the children (See pictures below).
That's Why commented about their visit to the orphanage. Sanila, from Nepal said, "It was so worth the effort!," and Nurperi from Kyrgyzstan followed, "When we saw those kids, we felt that we wanted to help more..."
Below are some pictures of them visiting the orphanage and hand-delivering their donation!
