Osaka YMCA International High School 

Teaching Assistant

The YMCA International High School was founded in 1988 and focuses on helping young people become well-rounded international students and global citizens in preparation for University. Its classes are conducted in both English and Japanese and students are encouraged to participate in various socially orientated extra-curricular activities such as Model United Nations and the Global Youth Conference. There are approximately 30 students per class currently enrolled full-time at the school.

 

This position is designed to give those interested in middle or high-school education an opportunity to experience an international classroom environment and assist preparing
teaching materials under the instruction of our qualified teachers.

Personal and Professional Learning Opportunities 

  • Work with mentors, local staff and teachers that can help guide interns through their internship and expose them to opportunities to which they can aspire

  • Meet a variety of students with different backgrounds, allowing interns to share and learn from each other

  • Join the Anan Camp and other programs/events planned for the students

  • Meet other interns and share experiences

  • Exposure to Japanese culture and language

  • Developing and expanding life skills such as leadership, public speaking skills, cultural awareness, confidence, teamwork, acceptance, decision making and independence

Osaka YMCA Tosabori provides the following services:

**Access to Wi-Fi is provided for members, staff, and students

**Interns may utilize the gym for ¥500

Regarding accommodation during your internship:

Interns will most likely be staying with a few host families during their internship.  Short-term accommodation might also be organized during the intervals of host families.

There will also be a hostel very close to Tosabori that Global has a partnership with. Global interns will be provided a special discount but will need to go through Global for reservations.

What should you bring?

  • Laptop with laptop charger and adapters 

  • Comfortable clothes to be wearing on camp grounds

  • Basic office appropriate outfits for Tosabori(Smart casual)

  • Long sleeve top/jacket/cardigan for the office (gets cold with a/c)

  • Comfortable shoes and sandals (for office as well as for camp grounds)

  • Water shoes (that can be worn in the water and won't fall off) for marine camps

  • Body wipes to refresh yourself and help cool you down

  • Water bottle - water filling stations provided at Tosabori and at Rokko

  • Sunscreen

  • Insect repellent and anti-itch cream for bug bites

  • Portable Wifi or SIM Card

  • Formal attire (suits, dress, etc) or traditional cultural attire for GYC General assembly

 

**The first few weeks your body will go through a transition phase so it is strongly recommended to bring some vitamin/immune boost and your own medication for when you get sick.
